You've got a fruit tree on your balcony. An actual fruit tree. That's not a flex everyone can pull off, but with a lemon tree it's honestly not that hard.

Give it the sunniest spot you have — outdoors or a south-facing balcony is ideal. It needs at least 6 hours of direct sun a day, and it'll reward you with fruit you can actually use. Less than that and it'll survive but won't fruit much, which kind of defeats the point.

Care Instructions

Water it deeply when the top 2–3 cm of soil are dry. Don't be shy with the water, but make sure the pot drains well — sitting in water is the one thing that'll actually kill it. In a Cairo summer, that might mean watering every day or two.

Feed it once a month during spring and summer with a citrus fertilizer, and prune after harvest to keep it from getting leggy.

General Facts

It can live in a pot for years as long as you repot it up a size every couple of seasons. The fruit takes a few months to ripen, so be patient — when those lemons turn yellow, they're yours.
