Snake Plant Care Guide

Snake Plant Care Guide

snake plant: zero drama. all style.

Indoor Snake Plant, Sanseviera.

Snake plants (Sansevieria) are kind of a big deal — and for good reason.
They don’t need much. They don’t complain. And they clean the air while they sit there looking cool.

Great for beginners. Great for busy people. Great for literally any room.

what makes them special?

  • they’re survivors.
    Low light? Fine.
    Forget to water? Totally fine.
Can’t remember the last time you gave it love? Still fine.

  • they clean the air.
Snake plants help remove toxins from the air while you sleep. Bonus: they release oxygen at night — so they’re perfect for bedrooms.

  • they just look good.
Tall, sculptural, and stylish. Put it on the floor, a shelf, or your office desk. It fits.

how to care (the very short version):

light:
Low light? It’ll survive.
Bright indirect light? It’ll grow faster.
No direct sun, please.

water:
This is where most people mess up.
Snake plants hate wet soil.
Always check the soil with the finger test — it has to be completely dry, all the way down.
Even in summer, you’ll probably only need to water every 10–14 days.
In winter? Even less.

yellow leaves?
That’s your plant telling you: “you watered me too soon.”

some types we love:

  • classic snake plant – the tall one with green and yellow stripes

  • tiger – same shape, but all green

  • dwarf tiger – short, wide, and perfect for small spaces

  • dwarf african spear – round leaves that look like spears. super cool.

  • moonshine - light green, compact and perfect for small spaces with bright light.

If you’re new to plants, this is where to start.
If you’ve already got five? Add another.
